Your Language Model May Understand "Let Alone" Better Than You Thought
We all know "let alone" means something stronger than what came before—but did the AI actually *get* that? It turns out mid-sized open models do, much like how you pick up idioms by reading, not by explicit instruction.
This means open-source language models have more subtle linguistic competence than we've given them credit for, and that understanding comes from the same learning dynamics as human language acquisition.
